Educational History

Master of Fine Arts, University of Notre Dame / 1989

    Attended on a full teaching fellowship. Studied with Professor Dick Stevens. MFA thesis: “The Descriptive Photograph.” Thesis based on research of historical and contemporary theories arguing the essential nature of photography as truthful document. Exhibition: Photographs from the “Calumet Series”.

Master of Arts in Education, Western Michigan University / 1975

    Entered program to integrate skills in photography with goals as educator. Received an assistantship to the education department that lead to first teaching appointment in photography at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

    Tailored course of study to emphasize American Studies and Popular Culture interest. Combined oral history and photography for local history projects. Received graduate assistantship and fellowship.
